What logical relationship exists between "AI solutions", "AI agents" and "AI chatbots"?

AI Solutions They are the broadest category and can include multiple artificial intelligence components. Within an AI solution, there can be one or several AI agents and, in some cases, an AI chatbot as the main or complementary interface.

AI Agents They operate autonomously or semi-autonomously to fulfill specific objectives, such as analyzing data, making decisions, or performing actions without continuous human interaction. An AI agent may not necessarily communicate with the user in natural language. However, if the agent specializes in conversational interaction and is designed to dialogue with people, it can become an AI chatbot.

AI Chatbots They are a specific type of AI agent focused on conversational communication. All AI chatbots are, in some way, "agents" capable of perceiving and responding to messages, but not all AI agents interact through conversation.

Example of convergence A company could implement an "AI solution" for customer service. In this solution:

  • There are one or several AI agents that manage business logic and make decisions (for example, checking the status of an order).
  • An AI chatbot acts as the visible interface for users, answering questions and facilitating communication. Therefore, the relationship is hierarchical and of specialization:
  • AI Solutions are the broad set encompassing many artificial intelligence applications.
  • AI Agents are components or autonomous entities within that set.
  • AI Chatbots are agents specialized in conversational interaction. In short, within the artificial intelligence ecosystem, not all AI agents communicate via a chatbot, and not all chatbots represent complete AI solutions by themselves. However, all belong to the artificial intelligence ecosystem and can be combined with each other to give rise to complex and very versatile systems.
